Professor Ibrahim Umar Abubakar is Professor of Agronomy with specialization in Irrigation Agronomy. He was promoted to the rank of Professor in 2006. He had served the University system of Ahmadu Bello University in various capacities as undergraduate and postgraduate coordinator in the Department as well as the Head of the Department for four years. He was Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture for two years and served as Executive Director of the Institute for Agricultural Research, Zaria for four years.

Professor Abubakar, a hardworking, meticulous and erudite scholar served in numerous Committees and Boards at University and National level. He served in the boards of Institute of Administration, A.B.U. Zaria, Division of Agricultural Colleges, National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services, School of Basic and Remedial Studies and National Animal Production Research Institute. He was the National President of Agricultural Society of Nigeria. A member of National Fertilizer Committee and Presidential Committee on Revival of Cotton, Textile and Garment Industry.

Professor Abubakar was born on July 26, 1962 and has obtained B.Sc Agric in 1987, M.sc Agronomy in 1991 and PhD Agronomy in 1999. He is a fellow of Agricultural Society of Nigeria. He has graduated over 30 Ph.D and M.sc candidates. He has published over 70 papers in peer reviewed Journal of local and international relevance. He was a coordinator of West African Research on “ Support for Agricultural Research and Development of Strategic Crops’ comprising Nigeria, Mali, Niger, and Mauritania.

He is happily married with three children.
